Thanks for the comment, Haley. It gave me reason to revisit my post, which is now almost 4 years old. I'll shoot you an email. Thanks.

I'm so glad I found this! In 2013 I went from vegetarian to "sustainatarian". I wish I could say I thought of all the deep and worldly issues that come with this change, but really I just missed meat and didn't want to feel bad about eating it. 😃

Now a few years later I'm thinking of writing down my journey to (and from, sadface) sustainatarianism. I have so many thoughts bouncing around in my head, I'm worried it's going to be a book! haha

Anyways, would love to pick your brain more on your experiences. Feel free to email me if you have time!

Fellow Sustainatarian

PS WHY did the word sustainable have to be the one that stuck? It takes so long to write/say things like sustainatarianism now... #lazysustainatarianprobs

Nice!

This is proof that everything is on the internet!

After a lot of independent study into diets, human anatony, the food cycles, the economics of packaged food, global consumption problems looming ahead; I decided to change my diet to be 'low environmental impact and sustainable'.

I did not want to label it 'vegetarianism', which it was not technically; though in practice it ends up being.

Then I searched on 'sustainatarian' on a whim, expecting to see an empty page... and was pleasantly surprised to find this and many other pages similar to this!

So here's to Sustainatarianism !!

Cheers!

Good article, especially this nugget - "...the key is to always be agile and ready to change our idea's when new information comes along, as it surely will."

Oh, and of course the shout-out. 😛

How's it going for me? Very well, thank you for asking. I've meandered over to a Paleo diet. Been doing that for close to two years now. It makes sense to me. My girlfriend, on the other hand, isn't into it. 😃

Hey!

I've just written and article on being a sustainatarian!

http://www.loneeaters.com/articles/22/4/2015/sustainatarian

I mentioned this blog post, and hope it can be a valuable addition to the growing sustainatarian community.

I think this is a great article, I can really relate to the journey you went through. How is it going 2.5 year later?

Hi Michael,

The defunct blog owner is me, my name is Nicolette. It's lovely to see that there are people who identify in the same way. I created sustainatarian.ca back in 2008 and my journey in trying to find a label for myself was much like yours. Your post made me smile, and you are right, its important that our community grows. Thus, I am going to blow the dust off my blog and start blogging again.
